Although this is a world wide thing I just thought I'd bring it to the attention of the UK TFS'ers that Earth Hour, a time in which people can turn off their lights to show support for taking action against climate change, will be starting in roughly 5 minutes.

If you're interested in Earth Hour, here's the link: Earth Hour

For people who aren't in the UK, did you get involved with it?

The earth hour in BG starts at midnight ... which is an hour and half away.
I'm taking part in it 100%. :

So no computer too then? Or are you just doing the lights?

I've lit lots of tea lights and turned off the lights but I still have my desktop on. Counter-productive I know but with no electricity there isn't a whole lot else to do.

I love any excuse to light candles though

I'll turn off the computer too but not for a long time.

Nope, it's a pointless symbolic gesture that does nothing.

Shame on the developing and top nations!

Most third world countries hvae been doing that almost everyday!! And all hosted by the Government there! (The Gov sell all electricities [minus some for their people] to neighboring countries )

There's nothing wrong with taking a bit of time out to consider the impact that we're making on the planet and how much electricity/technology,etc can contribute to climate change. It's amazing to see most of the world taking part in something that is really quite insignificant, only turning lights off. They've switched the lights at Big Ben off for the hour and they did the same with the Eiffel Tower in France.

It makes you think that if they are able to contribute like this then maybe at some point there will be a time when the world's Governments can work together and actually try and sort out all this environmental stuff.

I remember the time with my friends; we have all the lights out.
And we wondered what if people are riding the roller coasters!!

I kinda like the idea but I don't get why some of the places that do it need so many lights on them in the first place.

When businesses start turning lights and PCs off overnight, I'll do earth hour. I have most everything off when I sleep as is.

Yeah it does make you wonder what the point is. It must cost loads to light up all the landmarks all the time as well.
