tonights Eastenders will feature an all black cast for the first time. Its said they are making a deliberate political statement.
No white people will be in the show for the first time in 23yrs.

It revolves around the Trueman family.
There will be references to Martin Luther King, coloureds, negroes and slogans such as Keep Britain White from the 50,s.

I have to say, what's the point?! I appreicate people celebrating their background but surely bringing things like this up in a soap to have a completely black cast for one episode to make a political statement is just drawing attention the 'issue' of race.

Could be because some would like to think there is no issue concerning race.

Isnt it all a bit patronising give them one episode. Or maybe they are trying to prove that people will watch shows with an all black cast. I dunno, we loved fresh prince and the cosby show over here so i would imagine the only reason we dont have any all black shows is because the TV companies dont want to put thier money in it.

Then why make an all black episode of a programme with all different characters to make a political point?!

To draw to peoples attention the issue of racism, that it existed...and still does.
Pushing something under the carpet dosent make it go away, many have to live with it everyday.

But if it's a completely black cast it isn't addressing any issues is it!?

Bringing attention to racism would include a story line with racism, not just sticking an episode with just black people in.
