Do you think its possible to make a living off ebay?

I was discussing that with a few friends the other day.

What do you think?

My personal feeling on the matter is that you get out of something what you put into it. I would say that it is possible, however I think it would be a hard way and possibly very unrewarding and uncertain way to sustain a living.

As a sideline for a little extra cash...I could think of easier ways to make money also.

Some people do, but for most people it's a way to get rid of old junk and make some extra cash.

I know people who used to earn a decent crust from buying and selling at a couple of car boots every weekend,it's a lot easier and less time consuming to buy from ebay.

If your treat it like a job and work hard, yes. Going through people's old stuff does not make me happy. I'd bore quickly and give up. You also need to put some money into it, like any business. You have to know your product, like any business. Once in awhile it's fun, otherwise, no thank you.

My wife's business, one of them at least, is that of a listing agent for someone who is already established. She makes a fair bit of money doing this allowing her to concentrate on her own internet sales.

yeah, I have a friend of a friend who buys canvas cheap and prints basic ikea type prints on them and puts them on ebay, she does something similar with canvas bags too, last I heard she was doing well with it. I know lots of other people who've made plenty of money on the side too, you just need a bit more focus and hard work to do it for a living but it can be done...

You can, if you put the effort in, get a decent income from ebay.
Is it worth it though? The amount of time it takes to sell thing, post things, answer emails etc???

You could probably get, if you really tried, ?16,000 a year from ebay - and that would take working around 20 hours a week, So, to answer the question "Can You Make A Living Off of Ebay?" No, you can't.

How can you estimate what someone could earn from it?,it all depends on what you find and at what price you buy and re-sell it for.

Thanks Steve, however your statement seem a little contradictory to me.
You said that you cant make a living from ebay, yet you stated one could earn 16000 a year from ebay, working just 20 hours a week.

Well lets make it 40 hours (standard full time hours a week)...Soomone then could earn 32000 a year.
You could live off that a year surely?
A lot of people I know don't even earn that much a year and they're full time workers...

...Let's not forget either that the money from ebay is tax free...

i sed to know a japanese guy on the net who sold car parts mods upgrades etc... never had to leave his house so i guess you can if you find something that sells

People are on around about ?16,000 for other jobs and still manage to live.
