I have my location in TFS as to where I am from. I moved to the US 4 (almost 5) years ago due to my dad's job. I have been watching the economy fall to pieces since then. And it is not just the US, the world economy took a big hit, the US was just the epicentre of things... Since it is the world's reserve currency.

And not all Americans are daft in general, I think they are more daft than other countries when it comes to living within your means. The average credit card debt for an American person is i think around 50 grand. It's just that overspending that is causing so much pain.

The figure is actually much lower than that... Most have been forced into living within their means. - As far as that goes, a good and much needed learning experiece. - All the more reason to consider the next candidates wisely.

Worst case scenario for the US is that they will have to default on all of what they owe, and their bonds etc etc. That will create a massive impact on the US citizens.
