I sometimes wonder about certain things I hear from stations like Fox and CNN. Who is to say though what is real and not. They say that the newscasters will embellish a story just to get ratings and that they omit things that their boss tells them to.

So in reality, we are probably only getting half-truths

Whoa, you lost me with your line of logic there. How did you jump from the
media to the government covering crimes?

Oh, and in my opinion, there are some darn crappy media outlets
*cough*foxnews*cough* but in general I think people have a bed opinion of the
media for no reason. I'm not sure where the idea that all news media's are liars
comes from.

I never trust just one source of news.

You're talking about just T.V. news. T.V. news shows are starting to turn into entertainment.
That doesn't mean they're lying. That just means that you see high-speed chases on T.V.
instead of actual news.

reiko's right. You have to remember that the media keeps itself accountable. If a newspaper
prints something totally off the wall, some other source is going to tell you that it's totally off
the wall.

Someone telling a lie about a story is just as big a story as the story itself. I hope that made
sense.

I know an aweful lot about media and how they are manipulated by the powers that be.

Look at the coverage we get for wars over the last 10 years or so. Soldiers have reporters implanted with them and pictures are pooled so we all get feed the line the powers to be want us to see. The reporters aren't liars. They can only report what they are allowed to see.

I have close friend who is an officer in the British Army. During the invasion of Iraq we were watching the Sky news and reports on how the was was going. The report was live from "somewhere 30 miles south of Bagdad".

With that my mates phone rang and it was his brother, the officer phoning from Bagdad. We told him we were watching the live news and they were nowhere near Bagdad. Bollocks he said. "Don't listen to that s***e. We've taken over a palace in Bagdad and I'm using the bastards phone now."

But Sky said the smart bombs had destroyed all the communications in Bagdad. At that point his laughing got to much for all of us.

I'm not sure why a lot of people think that the media and government are
somehow working together in some conspiracy theory. Usually the media is at
odds with the governemnt.

As I said I know a lot of people who work in the medium of news reporting and they rely on their governments to feed them stories.

If they cross the line their sources all dry up, or die.

Do your reseacrh on war coverage and then come back and tell me that he reporters haven't been implanted and fed the same "party line" for the news.

oh, I wasn't talking about you bendover. I agree with what you said. They can't
tell any more then they know.

It's their responsibility to find out though.

They are in an impossible situation when covering something like wars. They may have a responsibility to get the truth to us but there is no way they can get out of the military "impaltment".

I know in Ireland that media coverage has saved lives by NOT telling the truth.

If the truth was known at some times a lot more people would have inflamed tension even more than it already was.

I think they should be telling the truth regardless. In the U.S. we've had all kinds of media
issues with hurricain Katrina. The media was saving lives by finding out things before the
government did.
