committing suicide is considered a sin

Only in the Abrahamic religions.

Be careful about mixing your belief systems.

There is no rule against it, but one starts to get a bit wonky when picking and choosing which parts of various religions to believe.

You are absolutely correct.

you wonder why people are buried on their backs in the coffins, not on their stomachs?

it quite simply, the person won't able to breathe, if their noses smashed against the bottom, when the coffin's lid is close.

Wasn't there some ritual to bury the dead face down?
To protect against a curse, or maybe to bind evil, or something like that ...?

You have to bury them face up... just in case they are vampires... so you have easy access to putting a wooden stake in their heart... if they were face down you might miss....

back then, there were no zombies in books and movies, because there were no union for zombies. you have a union card to be a zombie back then, the zombies found out back then. you never take a union rep. to dinner, especially, the union rep. is the main course.

But yes... the Zombie unions had not organized yet... they were still subjected to the control of corporate evil sorcery.... now Zombies have more power... they go on strike if they don't get enough brains to eat...

I think it's interesting how death rites differ between religions. For instance embalming and mummification vs cremation. The Zoarastrians ( today Parsis ) don't bury the dead, they let carrion birds eat the flesh from the body and dispose of the bones.

It makes me think of the tales of bodies moving and making sounds in the morgues. The question is, could this be a soul trying to get back in their body briefly before letting go again or is this as science says just nerves and gas being released? I know for a fact that beef quarters will still spasm if the butchering of the cow is fast enough.

If it is a soul trying to get back in the body then mummification and embalming seem kind of perverse; the soul might linger longer because the body isn't decomposing. Maybe that's the point. I guess in a way breaking the cycle of rebirth may be accomplished at least temporarily in this way. Maybe that's the idea behind the terracotta warriors and the preservation of a Pharoahs belongings. The burning of a funeral pyre might free a soul more readily to move on with it's natural journey.

Yes.

If I could choose I would have a Sky burial....

Or... perhaps in my last days hike up a mountain in the Andes and in my last moments sit down wrapped in woolen blankets and meditate the last moments of my life into death... maybe someday in the future my body would be found and people would be like...

WTF!

But that wouldn't really matter because I would be gone.. and my last moments would be looking out on to the world below... gazing into the past/present/future as the last of my breaths ceased to feed the biology of my body... my brain would cease to function... everlasting nothingness would embrace me... and I would be forever more gone....

What a blessing!
