Personal details of 100m Facebook users have been collected and published on the net by a security consultant.

Ron Bowes used a piece of code to scan Facebook profiles, collecting data not hidden by the user's privacy settings.

The list, which has been shared as a downloadable file, contains the URL of every searchable Facebook user's profile, their name and unique ID.

Mr Bowes said he published the data to highlight privacy issues, but Facebook said it was already public information.

So glad I'm not on there anymore.

So it only compiled everything that was public? That's not bad, Facebook is right-it's already available for everyone to see. If you don't watch your privacy settings then it's really only your fault if your information and personal things get out.

I agree, it's your own fault if your information gets taken if it's already available anyway.

Makes me glad I switched all my privacy settings to friends only a while ago. I don't really put my info on there anyway but I still wouldn't want anyone to see a lot of what's on my profile.

I don't see what the problem is. I don't think many people have their credit card or passport numbers listed on Facebook. All he has done is consolidate a lot of freely available information into one list. I don't understand how this qualifies as newsworthy.

Well, in fairness, it wasn't anything that was marked as 'private'; but still very interesting, and something to think about.
