Dems platform supporting Gay Marriage Repubs ban

The Democratic Party has added new language endorsing gay marriage in its platform draft, the Washington Blade reports. Sen. Harry Reid said in May that he believed the party would alter its platform in favor of gay marriage, after President Obama spoke out that month in favor of same-sex couples' right to marry. The Republican Party's platform calls for a constitutional amendment that would ban all same-sex marriages, even in states that allow them.

Proceeding on the not unreasonable assumption (knowing the Loony Toons who make up the Republican Party) that it is, and taking that sort of logic a step further, any person who is sterile or required assisted fertilisation or conception treatment whatever their sexuality and for whatever other reason, should not allowed to be married.

What about somebody who is married and then has a vasectomy or a hysterectomy...? Does that mean the State should annul their marriage on the grounds they can no longer reproduce..?

It's hard to believe that any party with such a ridiculous manifesto could possibly be returned by a sane and rational electorate.

What a strange amendment. It obviously would never get passed, but still it is bizarre that people would even try to pass something that has no bearing on them at all either way.

It's politicking. Even the Republicans must know such an amendment is unlikely to pass, but they calculate that the proposition alone will resonate with enough voters to give them an advantage somehow.

The scary thing is.... that it just might.

More Americans are in favor of same sex marriage than against it in polls. So it would stand to reason that the proposition would hurt the Republicans than give them an advantage.

And it's about time so!
