No special reason other than I was tired and didn't read over my post before submitting it. Sorry

"White" and "black" are not proper nouns and should not be capitalized.

It's obviously an age thing, but the term 'gang banging" does not conjure up in my mind images of thugs brawling on the street...

As to your broader point - I suspect that there is a lot of truth in that. Here in Aus, we have a lot of white youngens that are 'wannabe blacks ganstas' and when I see them, I have several different reactions simulataneously. I wanna laugh, beat the piss out of them, and drop them in some American inner city area full of gang violence.

I despise with intensity the glorification of violent morons - here in Aus we have had to put up with a s*** series on our local crims called "underbelly". The only people dumber than the morons that these shows are about, is the cockheads that make or watch these shows...

This is funny, cuz know of several young teens who are currently
'under the influence' - kind of goes with being teen, but feel it is also definitely a result of music and music videos: all of a sudden the teen changes from a 'normal' person to someone who talks gangsta/gangsta wannabes; walks like one; acts like one; poses like one; and is even less interested in doing well academically then they ever have been. My reaction is same as yours: amused first, and then other thoughts. But then back in the day, parents were worried about the influence that Elvis' hip swing would have on youngsters! Some things just gotta run their course, and for the most part with no major life-threatening influence being made.

One thing I find weird with Aboriginal crime in Australia and how in places where I have lived its very high is. We as a community have tried very hard and still try to improve their living and education. Aboriginal students get payed weekly to go to school and on top of that they get a lot of help with buying things like cars and houses, where they only have to a pay a small part of it and the government then pays the rest. Yet constantly alot of crime is commited by them and not to be racist they spend all their money on boose. If you have ever been to North bridge or Kalgoolie you would see astonishing evidence of this.

The worst thing about it is for the aborigines trying to make a better life for themselves by going through to tertiary education and actively trying to give back to the community.

One of the arguments made by one of these Aborigines is that, the white man gave them alcohol. Yet if we refused to sell them alcohol we would be viewed as racists.

White and black are adjectives as well as nouns.
I am what I am.....
it says I am what I am on my birth certificate....
My birth certificate also says my parents were what they were, which of course make me 'what I am'.....
I am a noun, when you use it in that context -- in a racial context.
If you are saying am I black and blue, or yellow with jaundice, or brown from a good summer tan, then in that context color is an adjective.

Er, OK.

And they're not capitalized because they're not proper nouns.
