'Science tests' ask young students to answer questions like how many days did it take for God to create the universe, and they are taught that the Earth and moon are only around 6000 - 10000 years old.

I am outraged, I NEVER thought that this would ever be allowed in the UK.

Don't worry - no-one ever listens in school here.

Young lady get out your pens and books!

But in all seriousness, I'm very surprised that is in the school system. BUt I know little about the UK and the educational system there.

Maybe not when the students are older, but at that young an age (like 4-6?), kids are going to listen to believe what they are taught.

I doubt it will last, if it's true. Religion never played a part much in any school I know. Don't know about specialist 'faith' schools though.

Maybe - but I remember being taught all sorts of old waffle when I was 6 that I just ignored later, lol.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "faith" schools are religious schools, right?

If that's the case, why SHOULDN'T they teach what their faith believes?

Didn't realize this was a 'faith' school. I admit, I didn't click on the vid or thoroughly read the subject line.

We have a National Curriculum - it doesn't necessarily apply to independent (usually fee-paying) schools, although most still conform mainly to it, but parents choose to send kids to them.

Even if this is a faith school.. science tests that ask how long it took God to create the Earth are bulls***.

Faith schools shouldnt even exist. They do nothing but indoctrinate children with crap that is not helpful whatsoever to them learning a proper education and skills that are required to succeed in the real world.

No school should be allowed to teach biblical myths as facts.

Also, they should DEFINITELY NOT be allowed to present biblical myths as factual science, when they are not.

I think that's what I'm confused about. Religious schools in the US are private schools, and therefore, aren't subject to the same rules regarding separation of church & state that public schools are. Parents make a choice (as you said) to send their children to religious schools.

I kind of feel like if you're sending your child to a religious school, you would expect religion to come into play in their education. In the US, that's certainly the case. Would it be safe to think that religious schools in the UK would also have religion in their curriculum? (I'm not asking to be snotty or smart, I really don't know how schools work over there)

They are not simply teaching what their faith believes, they are using creationism as a direct replacement for Science, which accomplishes nothing but turn kids who believe it into stupid people.

Yeah - it's bound to creep in. I don't know much about church schools, although lots of our primary schools (especially in villages) are C of E based, but I don't think religion overrides the basic curriculum in them. Some big private schools are religious based, but no-one is forced to attend them of course lol, and they still mainly follow the education guidelines from what I've heard.
