Most of us have it to one degree or another.
Where does it come from and can we change it if we choose?

I think either you have one, or very little, or none at all; which would be where sociopathic behavior would fall into, in examples 2 and 3.

most of the conscience/morals people refer to, come form religion. all though i am not very religious, i do not think it is right to take from others or hurt, etc.

so people choose to act morally and i feel that some do not. some of it may be the way you are raised.

So no act is wrong or right in its self?

I dont have a clue where conscience comes from, there are so many arguments, im still working it out.

I guess it depends on who you ask. If you ask a radical Muslim if it was ok to kill for Alla then they might say yes.

If you ask someone from Japan the same question, they might say no.

But say, stealing, the only reason why we see stealing as wrong, having a negative reaction towards it, would be that society has told us, dont steal?

you could look at it that way. suppose we meet some aliens and they think that 18 is to young to get married. we don't always think it is wrong, but they do.

Hmm, id tent to disagree then, id say there was something wrong with stealing, based on my conscience, based in the action and its situation, not because the guys in charge told me it was.

ok, but i did not say the 'guys' in charge. i am refering to society as a whole. this is why the death penalty and abortion bring up so many opposing views. because as a society, we can not agree if it is moral or not.

I wouldnt see stealing to survive wrong though, and i think society has a pretty black and white opinion on stealing, a difference already.

what about the person you are stealing from? what if it was all they had to survive on also. so you steal from them and now they have to suffer.

Your example is terrible, when wil that actually happen?
Although in the example your thinking about the morality of the action itself in context to situation, not what society says is good, so doesnt your poorv example actually back me up?
