I'm going to go against the flow a bit here, and point out that many of the celebs who are giving up time are very wealthy.
They are hoping to raise 40 million. As was "blogged" in the paper I was reading today, one of those celebs had a dodgy accountant, and didn't even notice he had a million siphoned off his accounts.
So the celebs give this time, and the poorer general public like you and me might be moved enough to donate a fiver....which means more to us than many thousands to these celebrities. If they had a whip around, they could very easily match that 40 million.
I'm not saying it isn't worthy - it is. I'm not saying we shouldn't donate - we should if we can. It just sometimes leaves a bad taste these telethons, the comparitively poorer donate, and help cover up governments mistakes.
What is not going to make me donate, is a very well paid actor or tv presenter, poncing about an impoverished area of Africa, pointing out how much aid and help they need, but in actual fact, are screaming "look at me, aren't I good"
