Quote:
Prison bosses made more money forcing inmates to play games than they do forcing people to do manual labour,” former prisoner Liu Dali told the paper. “There were 300 prisoners forced to play games. We worked 12-hour shifts in the camp. I heard them say they could earn 5,000-6,000 renminbi [$750 to $900 CDN] a day. We didn’t see any of the money. The computers were never turned off,” added Dali, whose name was changed for publication.

Is this true? I don't know The Star's reputation.

That would actually kind of make sense...You can go online and 'buy' gold to use in the game. I've 'bought' money before for EverQuest...it never occurred to me that it may have been farmed by prisoners or slaves.

Now if you run across someone mindlessly farming gold and they won't talk to you, you're going to be wondering if they're in prison in China.

Yes, but if I had to choose between manual labor and gold farming on WoW, I'd take farming any day.

You can 'buy' Gold on Wow? Who the hell would waste their money on in-game gold when it's really easily available on the game anyway?

Because it takes a long time to get a large amount of gold in the game and they'd rather just buy it. I bought money for a similar game, and I'm trying to remember why...

TBH, I'm drawing a complete blank, but it didn't cost a whole lot of actual money for a lot of in-game money. It's not much different than buying supplies for a craft-type hobby.
