i have just read that there will be a vaccine against Cervial Cancer within a year this is not a cure but should dramatically decrease the mortality rate, the drug is called Gardasil and tests of it came back with 100% results

Cervical cancer is cancer on the cervix (this is the entrance to the womb). It can be caused by the HPV virus, but there are other causes as well, so it is a bit out of order to say that everybody who has it is to blame themselves for it. And what about the women who catch it because a long-term (and supposivly faithfull) partner cheated and caught it?.

I heard about them doing tests for this vaccine a while ago and I think it is a great idea as it will cut the number of cases of cervical cancer dramatically. Because even though it is treatable you can still be left infertile and as smear tests are only given once every 3 years(in this country at least) sometimes it is not picked up quick enough.

Cervical cancer is certainly attached to sexually active women but it is not known as an "std" as such.

While this is a great discovery I think it pales into insignificance with the latest strides in breast cancer.

Up until very recently if a woman had breast cancer she could be treated by surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, all of which were devastating in the physical and mental toll they took on the person. The drug of choice that has been regularly prescribed for hormonal therapy afterwards was a drug called Tamoxifen but now there is a much better and more effective but expensive drug in Britain that has just been given permission, ( after a fight ), to be prescribed. This drug, ( although only right for specifically tested women ) has a far greater long-term effect than Tamoxifen. It is called Herceptin and it is as close as we have come so far to the "magic bullet" against cancer.

If you or anybody you know has breast cancer then make them push for this new drug as it is truly a wonderdrug.
