Capital Punishment?

What is your opinion on it and do you believe it does any good?

yeah I believe its OK for some people. I did a report on it in school. Well it was just the devices used and got a good grade on it. Too bad I don't know where that report is.

I don't think it does much good, people have been executed for murder but murders still happen.

Kill them all!

If you could guarantee that they were 100% guilty then I would be cool with it. Unfortunately every time I read about someone spending a lot of time on death row and sometimes being executed only to be later found innocent I rethink my earlier beliefs in capital punishment.

People have been put in prison for murder, but murders still happen. Guess prison is pointless too.

Kinda, maybe if they were given 25 years hard labour instead that would be better?

Maybe, they would be so crippled by the time they got out they wouldn't be able to do much. lol

Obviously having no major background in this, the way I see it is that it can be quite a good deterrent for some people to not commit such a crime. The thought of it is enough to reconsider and choose another action.

Is it fair to use and force capital punishment on people? Surely as a race of people we have to be better than that. Is it right to treat someone who has committed a heinous crime with a similar retaliation method of punishment?

But to answer the question.. in all fairness we are probably better off without it. It is a deterrent for most.. just like the current punishments we have in place in most countries in the western world (e.g prison). There are some people who will still do it regardless of the punishment and you can't account for that. In that situation it doesn't do any good, all it probably builds up is bitterness and anger and i'd prefer people guilty of those crimes are given a chance to learn new ways and become better people, not taking away the severity of their crimes in the first place and the havoc this crime has no doubt reeked on a family of the victim. Capital punishment would never allow this opportunity for reform to be effective.

It seems like it would be rather hard to say, sorry we made a mistake and got the wrong guy with a sentence like that...

Capital punishment has always been use in a racist manner.
Black men accused of murder or some other capital crime have
been victimised by the death penalty. In the state of New York and Louisiana selling marijuana to a minor was a death penalty carrying crime. Up until the 1950s!

I've always been on the fence when it came to capital punishment.
As a deterent I don't think it works, also murder is wrong so how can a state enforce, surely that makes it capital murder?

What about the person or person that have to do the execution, doesn't that murderers?

Dunno tbh, I'm pretty sure i'd be all for it if a crime was commited to one of my loved ones though!
