Is it good or bad, basically are you for it or against it?

For me I'm against it because of the fact that DNA evidence is never 100% certain and the prosecution may be withholding evidence, also the death-penalty system seems to be quite racist...

There is a reason the death penalty is racist.

DNA is 100%, we have seen people get off DR because of it.

DNA is not 100%, even if the DNA test is. Evidence can be mishandled, fabricated, planted, etc. No one is 100% trustworthy.

The justice system makes too many mistakes for something like the death penalty. We have executed innocent people. That should be argument enough against it.

In the US im for it. Here in canada im completely aginst it.I dont want to worry about being killed if i ever become a serial killer.

I'm for it. I think DNA evidence is as close as we'll get to the truth, and I'm confident that it works.

I'm for it. If they commit a bad enough crime then they should suffer and slow and painful death. Im sorry but they are my beliefs, no one can change them.

Blacks and hispanics are much, much more likely to get the death penalty for the same crime as a white person.

Violent crimes against blacks are much, much less likely to get the death penalty for the same crimes.

That's a great belief and one that not many people will argue (although I would... a slow suffering death is flat-out unconstitutional).

However, the problem comes in certainty. So let me pose a question to you:


Given the absolute knowledge that we have executed innocent people using our current justice system, and people on death row continue to be exonerated with new or previously-withheld evidence, are you still comfortable sentencing someone to die?

Is that a fact?

Yes.

Let me clarify:
I do not think that anyone should be put to death WITHOUT DNA evidence. I agree that there have been far too many cases where DNA has proven someone innocent.
But if the DNA evidence is there, I'm okay with it.

DNA evidence is 100% proof, and if someone deserves the death penalty----------so be it.

It should have nothing to do with what race you are, but unfortunately in the laws hands, sometimes it does.

Paul Bernardo should have gotten the death penalty................he sits in his cell and we are paying for his food and entertainment, and we keep working for pay for these things................something is very wrong with this picture. And in case you didn't know, he's is Canadian and he is white.

DNA evidence can be fabricated or planted quite easily. DNA *tests* are not even a 100% thing. DNA test results represent a large gradient from "maybe" to "almost certainly." Factor in the possibility for misconduct and you have something that is definitely NOT sure enough to kill someone over.

By the way, odie, as for the paying thing? On average, it costs more to sentence someone to death and carry out an execution than it does to put them behind bars for life. So money is not an argument for the death penalty.

Well, that sucks. It shouldn't be like that. But I still support the Death Penalty...my state doesn't.
