Huddled in the drafty doorway
frost, snow and ice settling
on his battered cardboard blanket.
Clutching and holding tightly
the bag containing his life.
Broken clothes, body and dreams
completely gone, lost, forgotten.
People rushing by, no time to spare
no thought given to the
bundle of rags.

Why then do we fear him? We fear his freedom.

I don't read fear in that poem. I read pain that he's forgotten so easily. How can we do that to people? He's not free, he's in his own mental cage. JMHO.

Fear, or envy?

It's a real love/hate thing for sure..

Thought provoking post, OP..

I didn't write this with fear in mind. Just that so many homeless people are passed by & just forgotten

So touching and sadly so true all too often. I do genuinely feelpity and long to help such who are in desperation, but it grieves me to see those who fight for their rights and cause havoc and yet could have more than I have only too lazy to even try.

Thanks for sharing that Sue.

It saddened me only last week when shopping to see a young chap sat in the subway, dirty, wet from the rain and probably needing money for more drugs, alcohol whatever. He didn't seem to know what he was doing or where he was. Such a waste of a young life.
