Ok, this might sound stupid, but is it possible to have heart problems, due to missing or loosing a loved one?

Thats a hard one to answer im sure that you can't get heart problems as such but i do know of couples who have being together for 40 years + and when they lose there other half then they go suddenly after.

Perhaps its not so much the broken heart as it is pinning

Again, this might sound stupid, but I've recently had cheast pains, and they got worse since my gf left to Australia. I've been told I have an irregular heart beat and have to go to the Docs for an echo. Could my gf living in Australia be effecting it at all?

Stress can create or exacerbate heart conditions.

If you're having an irregular heartbeat, it could be any number of things, including one of a dozen different kinds of arrythmia. I myself suffer from something similar - occasional premature ventricular contractions, when the ventricles contract before they are filled with blood by the atria. The result is sort of an extra/skipped beat. Feels like a fluttering in my chest and like a missed beat on my cartoid.

Anyway, get it checked out. Could be nothing.. could be serious.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrythmia

There's a nice long list of arrythmias there. Can't figure out what it is without an EKG though. They might make you wear a monitor for a day if they can't isolate it.

Cheers for the info. I had an ECG (which im fairly sure is the UK term for an EKG) about a week ago, it was based on those results that I need to get an echo. Got to say, I am under alot of stress at the moment.

ECG = EKG.

Electrocardiogram. EKG is from the German spelling for "kardio". I dunno what's more commonly used.. I like EKG because it flows a little bit better when said out loud.

Echoes are fun. They're basically sonograms. They slather this cold gel all of over your chest and then rub it for a while with a sonar gun.

Hehe, I look forward to it.

One of my mates had never heard of an ECG but had eard of an EKG, shows how popular american medical shows have become over here...particularly scrubs.

ahhh we now know a bit too much about what Jonny qualifies as fun....

have you ever had panic or anxiety issues? that can cause heart racing, palpitations that kind of thing. And with your g/f having just recently left, you may be a bit anxious/

Just started uni and like every other scottish football fan i'm getting anxious about that. Probably the fact that Aberdeen are in the Uefa cup doesn't help.

Yeah, stressed out at the moment to be honest.
