IMO, this may have been true for the poor souls with second or third class cabins or the 'staff' on board , but I find it hard to believe about the first class Brits, same holds true for the Americans .



well DUH, stands it to reason most if not all the sailors and the ' staff' like kitchen staff, waiters, cleaning staff , mechanics etc... were British.



Probally because most if not all the Americans were first class passengers.

One of the British survivers on one of the life boats really a man dressed in womans clothing ??

well only so many people could fit on the lifeoats,
so filling them up faster wouldn't of saved anyone.

in fact i'd say the opposite, the more panic involved the more likely it is that people would get killed fighting over places and the more empty spaces that would be left as people try and escape the riot lest they loose their own place.

i remember reading this in the dailymail (i know, i only read for giggles) it reeked of xenophobia

There were 16 life boats on a ship with over 2000 people on board.

I'm not sure how much of it was actually 'the stiff upper lip' rather then men trying to save their women and children...but then again I'm tainted by the film.

i didn't say the British did have contempt for the Swiss or Austrians.

but the dailymail, has contempt for all things not British, and in the article i read (in relation to this story) they were twittering on about how Americans are bad mannered etc, compared to the British
