Grigori Rasputin lived in the Russian Empire. In the early 1900s, the last Czar, Nikolas II, was in charge. He had a son named Alexi. He was heir to the throne, but had a condition where he would bleed, and not stop. The royal family used doctors, gypsies, and tribesman to try and heal him. No one could do it except Grigori Rasputin. He could magically heal him. He claimed that he was a holyman. But he was given a lot of power. People had to consult him before they could see the royal family. He also made several decisions that effected the entire empire. He was a drunk and a lecher so he helped reduce the already dwindling support of the royal family. Before the revolution that led to the USSR, a few assassins attempted to kill him.
When he was stabbed in the gut by someone in the streets, the assassins decided to finish the job. They "congratulated" him by giving him poisoned cake and wine. It didn't work. After half an hour or so, one of the assassins Gresham impatient and shot him in the back. Thinking he was dead, they left. One forgot his coat and when he came back, Rasputin sprang up and began strangling him. The others came back and shot him 3 more times in the back and torso. He was still standing however. Then the assassins started to club and beat him. They knocked him to the ground. They eent to grab a rug. But he got up so they shot him in the head. He was still alive so they wrapped him in rugs and other wrappings and threw him in the icy river. When they found his body, they found out that he was a few seconds away from clawing out. Rasputin was a good swimmer so he would have been back. But he died of hypothermia. When they burnt his body, they didn't cut his tendons so his body involuntary sprung up, eyes open. The assassins probably slept with the lights on from then on.
