In an interview with Bill Maher, Biden was asked to forget about the upcoming caucus and honesty say which is more likely to contribute to the death of an American, fructose or terrorism.

Biden said fructose

well before you bash him consider this, how many Americans die every year due to obesity.
and now compare that figure to the number of Americans who die every year due to terrorism.

he's a smart guy.

I was gonna say that...When you think about it fructose contributes to the major obesity problem we have here, there are more people who die from fructose related issues like obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease in America than terrorism.

Terrorism is way, way, way, way, way down the list of likely causes of death in the United States.

When was the last US citizen killed on American soil by a terrorist attack? Seriously? 7 years ago?

And how many people have been killed by drunk drivers in those 7 years? Diabetes? Homocide? Lung cancer? Various microbial diseases? Drug overdoses? Fires? Plane crashes? Hurricanes?

Millions. Biden was 100% absolutely and uncategorically correct when he said that HFCS is a more pressing danger to the average American than terrorism.

Saying that terrorism is a bigger threat to an American than HFCS would be an out and out direct and blatant lie.

Maher didn't ask about "fructose."

He asked about HFCS, or high fructose corn syrup. This is the highly subsidized, processed, manufactured sugar that is used in soft drinks and lots of other processed food. HFCS makes up more of the average American's daily calorie intake than any other food and is a major contributor to America's obesity epidemic.

In Ireland there was for 30 years "The Troubles" with thousands of troops and millions of ??? spent on a war on terrorism.

In that 30 years about 3,000 died due to the violence. During that same time 3,000 people a year died from heart conditions mainly due to poor diet and obesity.

Read the full quote, people.

which would you honestly say is more likely to contribute to the death of your average American: a terrorist strike, or high fructose corn syrup, and [sic] air that has too much coal in it?

Joe Biden: Air that has too much coal in it, corn syrup next, then a terrorist attack. But that is not in any way to diminish the fact that a terrorist attack is real. It is not an existential threat to bringing down the country. But it does have the capacity still to kill thousands of people.

But hundreds of thousands of people die and their lives are shortened because of coal plants, coal-fired plants, and because of corn syrup.

Biden was essentially asked a factual question here. He was asked to put three causes of death in order from most likely to least likely.

The only correct order to put those things in is the one that he provided.

If he had put them in any other order, he would have been totally and completely wrong. And Biden is too smart a guy to do that.

sounds like Biden knew exactly what he was talking about. I sounds like it was a trick question by the interviewer to either get biden to downplay terrorism or answer incorrectly. He couldn't have given a better answer.
