He can overturn it, he knows it was a wrong call, and he won't.

I don't think he should. There is no replay in baseball. No take backs. I feel bad for the pitcher, but if Selig over turns this, who is to say what other crucial plays he can/can't over turn.

It's a sport, it's not a life/death situation.

I can understand if it was disputed, but no one is disputing that it was a wrong call. No one. Not even the umpire who made it. Why does he have the power to overturn a call if that power is not used in such obvious circumstances?

Well i think that really sucks. If a mistake was made and no one disputes its wrong to not fix it and make it right.

That was just a total shocker. you could see he was out clear as day. This will end up having two things. 1. It will be in the blunders record books for years to come. 2. The umpire will have to live with this mistake for the rest of his career.

Yeah, I think it will follow him for a good while at least. He'll be known as the umpire who made the wrong call. That's not exactly what a person wants to be known for, lol.

I thought they had replay in baseball now and had it for a couple years?

I think it's good that he won't. He shouldn't. There is no replay for out calls in baseball and this should remain a cautionary example.

It wouldn't set a good precedent to go revise this one obviously-wrong call out of hundreds that happen per year just because it pads one pitcher's stats.

I agree that he shouldn't change his call. Baseball games run about 3 1/2 hours now, and if every call was going to be disputed, they'd run more like 6.

I can't sit in the sun and drink beer for more than 4 hours.

I like the idea of making it more like football and giving each manager 1 or 2 challenges per game. Wouldn't add much time, and they already have the equipment and procedure in place because they can review home run calls.

Balls and strikes should be 100% up to the ump and not subject to review. Only fair/foul balls and out calls.

I don't think he should overturn it and I don't even think he should have the power to overturn it. Results of sports matches should be final. For a start it would be a nightmare for the betting industry if results could be changed at a later date and I don't want to celebrate my team winning something only to find out the next morning that some official has decided we haven't won it any more.
