Hiya,

Can anyone recommend some good backup software?

I have a drive on another computer networked to my laptop and I was backing up all new/changed files to there using SmartSync Pro. Now, that's fine software but the trial period ran out and I don't want to pay $35 for a license (a bit overpriced if you ask me for a 2MB program )

I want all the files to be easily accessible on the other comp too, so i don't want it to save everything in some strange file format.

thanks!

yea, depends on how important the stuff you want to backup is, how big they are, and how often they change. acronis can backup your entire hard drive by taking a snap shot of your system. if you have more than 5 gigs of files to back-up, why not just spend $50 on a program that offers more complete coverage than wasting money on buying 2 dvd's every so often. having an external drive is a good idea tho, but like i said, it all depends on what you're backing up.

Well I'm pretty much saving everything on the drive, and I don't have a DVD burner!

I was backing up new/changed files on a daily basis.

I wouldn't mind having a 'system snapshot' either every now and then. Maybe I'll partitiion the backup drive and do that.

did you try acronis, sounds exactly like what you need. you can use it to save an image of your current drive to another partition. i think you can set it to do it automatically too, so you don't have to manually back everything up everyday.

Wel I installed it but haven't used it yet since it wanted me to restart and I didn't want to restart my system. I'll give it a try soon though

My boyfriend is a computer software developer and he has just launched a new data backup program called BuddyBackup. He is looking for people to use it if you are interested, its free for the time being too. If you Google "BuddyBackup" (no space) his website should come up tops.
It may save you some money!

Oh I forgot his link is my signature!
The software watches any changes you make to your selected files and then backs up the new versions automatically, so it just runs in the background, it also takes snapshots I believe, but Im not that tekky!

Here and there,

My current fav is Genie Backup Manager Pro.

Works well, has 256-bit AES encryption (!), pretty decent scheduling, and lots of options.

I have it set up to do daily incremental backups and weekly full backups to a USB hard drive, keeping only the last 2 weeks of backups.

I agree with jonnythan that Genie Backup Manager is very good backup program. The price may be a bit high though, especially if you don't need all of its advanced features.
A similar (as stability and basic feature set) but cheaper solution is Handy Backup ( https://www.lightsparkle.com/product_page.php?product_id=986 ). It too supports every imaginable storage type out there, has encryption and zip compression on the fly. Try them both to find which suits you best.
Here you can find trial versions for them (and some other notable shareware backup programs) - https://backup-computer-software.lightsparkle.com.
