BRITAIN faces years of blackouts and soaring electricity bills because of the drive toward green power, a leading energy expert warned last night.

A growing obsession with global warming and ?renewable? sources threatens the stability of our supply.

Look at that, the Daily Express found an electrician who no-one has heard of who has said a bunch of things without providing any proof so they can write some anti-EU rhetoric. That's never happened before.

At the moment they probably do. Will they when they start shutting down coal and nuclear power plants?

I think the majority of power stations would have to be shut down before our exported 3.5 billion kW-h is depleted.

I quite like when we have blackouts. The traffic is so much better and people speak to each other.

The Brits would do well to listen to Lord Moncton. Green energy is far from the solution to the enregy issues and nuclear power which is the greenest of all is over regulated. Carbon trading is a farce, designed to make the population feel good about doing something for the environment while the government takes their money and enriches those involved in trading.

According to this article, you import more energy than you export.

"The first study to put a financial value on the UK's offshore renewable energy resource has concluded that the nascent sector could transform the country from a net energy importer to a net energy exporter by 2050"

Norway harnesses almost all of it's energy from Hydropower - using the water on their coast. As an island, we could probably learn a lot from them.

I love their 'leading energy expert' though. A former Grid Control Engineer with a book coming out...

It already happens here, we get on average 3-5 power cuts a week here in Royston Vasey!

We get them fairly often too! But because we have overhead power lines, and if it's windy and the lines touch it cuts out. And it's windy quite often

But the pub has normal power supply (underground) and is always open

They use the coast waters. It was on Coast on the BBC/Open University. Yeah, it's different to ours, but they doesn't mean it can't be adapted. They had to invent their system.

Renewable energy doesn't have to mean unstable.
