Boys Reported Missing Now Face Serious Charges
Thefts, Crash Lead To Felony Charges

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Broward sheriff's deputies said two boys, 11 and 12 years old, who had been reported missing were actually out joyriding in a stolen truck.

The boys, who were reported missing from Hallandale Beach on Tuesday, were found when they crashed the stolen truck into a parked vehicle and the corner of a building on El Mar Drive in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, investigators said.

Deputies said after the boys crashed the truck, they grabbed a couple of bicycles that were parked nearby and took off. Deputies caught up with the boys at 4105 Ocean Drive.

Detectives said the boys admitted to stealing the landscaping truck, with keys still inside, from the parking lot of the Aventura Mall before dawn Tuesday morning.

The boys told deputies that they had been sleeping in the truck since they left home. Deputies said the 11-year-old, who weighs 65 pounds and is 4 feet 5 inches tall, did most of the driving.

Both boys are charged with grand theft auto and grand theft for the bikes. The 11-year-old was also cited for the crash.

The parents will probably blame the landscaper.

people should always...normally be held accountable for their actions.
How could an 11 year old see over the steering wheel?

The parents ought to be charged as well. They're responsible for the boys actions. They should be charged with negligence.

I agree with doplhinlover - the parents should have been watching or something . . . trying to watch over the kids, in some way. Though it seems weird to think about it . . . I mean, kids will always get away from their parents. But why did these kids steal a car while not every other child does? Is it the parents' fault? Is it something within the kids themselves?

Everyone should be punished! Even the landscaper guy, for leaving his keys out like that! That way, at least we know who really was at fault got what they deserved.

Such stupid kids . . .

Yah I agree. In most cases people should be held responsible for their actions.

The only case in which I'd disagree with that pollicy is when the person in question is mentally ill in some way, which means that they aren't in control of what they're doing.

But it sounds like those boys weren't like this, and so I think they and their parents should be charged.

man im sleepy

but you should be held accountable if you are responsible
if you had something to do with what was what

which is pretty much always

being accountable doesn't always mean trouble

Read the story properly
- the kids had been reported as missing.
- the kids had been sleeping in the truck since leaving home.

From where I'm sitting, the parents have done everything possible, they are not responsible for the actions of the kids.

And why on earth am I responding to a topic that has been asleep for ages!!!!!!!
