go to godaddy's website and try to type any name you are thinking to in the bulk registration window . it allows you to check in bulk.
it saves time, and so , you would know about the domain availability.
personally, i am using a domain name sniffer, so i can check thousands of names without headaches.

As long as its short and memorable who cares (take Tucows for instance), its all about promotion and site content.
