Do you think antivirus software to protect your computer is necessary and effective? Is it worth the price? Do you use it and if so, what do you buy?

Perusing the internet without Antivirus Software is like going to a house of ill repute, sleeping with 30 whores without a condom, while still under the delusion that you won't catch anything.

Yes, you definitely need some kind of antivirus system in place on your computer. You can get some for free like AVG and there's free trials of others like Norton about too. I think Windows computers have a security programme as well.

It is absolutely necessary! But you can get programs that are free, and very effective.
You should get one up and running as soon as possible.

EDIT: twas the wrong link...but good free programs are available. Do a search!

I use free software and multiple versions but I don't leave one constantly running. I just pull them out one by one and run them to see what they catch.

Basically what happens is that one software can't catch every virus.

Thirty whores all at once would be well worth it!

Actually I just caught a nasty virus while I was on this site. I had to go get my computer cleaned up and I did have anti-virus software running at the time.
Just be careful what you allow to be downloaded on to your computer. It can be costly.

This has been the most affective for me.

It's free or you can buy professional but wait till the offer screen comes up after updating because it offers professional for $10 instead of standard price.

But if you don't have anything running then how do you know that what you're downloading is a legit antivirus software and not just a virus in disguise? Because that just seems like a really easy way to spread a virus.

Does anyone know what is JavaScript? A window pops up every now and them asking me to update it? Could this be another virus?

But how do you know that? Do you ever not have an antivirus software running in order to demonstrate that one actually works?

I think using Trend Micro 2012 is one of the best anti viruse software as for spyware you need to use a bootable windows environment on a DVD to clean out the spyware and virses properly.

I do that like every 6 months.

I use the avast antivirus that's free through the internet. When I'm surfing or reading emsil it will pop up occasionally and say that they have stopped a threat. I haven't a problem sinse it's been installed. The program updates every time I connect to the internet. It's also the program we use at work.

If you have windows that pop up on its own, you can be certain that its either a virus or spyware.

I'm sorry Woodss but avast pops up and tells me a threat has been detected. It's not a virus or spyware. Thanks anyway.
