A small whitish worm wriggled in the rain on the driveway outside my front door and while it was attempting to wriggle towards the safety of the moist earth, I watched it. Its little body wriggled and thrashed wildly in the beating rain as it struggled to make progress. For a short time that little worm had a purpose. I reached down, picked it up, and placed it gently down on the earth.
We may experience a moment of purpose as we struggle to find food and shelter. Meanwhile we continue our aimless meandering through our meaningless lives in this purposeless universe. And then the giant finger of fate/grace reaches down and picks us up.
what is bugging me…...is that in all probability a bloody blackbird dived down and gobbled it up soon after......
On my way to work recently, a f***ing enormous earthworm wriggled in the early morning on the driveway outside my front door. While it was attempting to wriggle towards the safety of the moist earth, I watched it. Its little body wriggled and thrashed wildly in the rising heat as it struggled to make progress. For a short time that little worm had a purpose. I reached down, picked it up, and placed it gently down on the earth.

what is bugging me…... is that I really wanted to shove a hook up that worms arse and throw it in the water...
