"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion"

The Bill of Rights applies to all governments in the US, including state governments.

It is a violation of this amendment for the government of the State of Indiana to promote the distribution of Christian-themed license plates as it unfairly respects certain religions and disregards others. It is the same reason teachers are not allowed to lead schoolchildren in Christian prayers and courts cannot force a witness to take an oath to God.

Did congress make a law respecting religion?

OK forgive my ignorance, but what if you are Hindi, Muslim etc, and therefore you cannot honestly say 'In God We Trust'.

What does these mean for those people?

I do not know what the ammendments are, or even how many there are of them.

The government is now allowed and never should be allowed to respect any particular religion over any other. Ever.

and herein lies the tunnel vision of fundies, if the situation benefits them specifically then its all well and good, yet if the situation, in this case license plates, were made available for all religions, you would here an outcry.

They don't buy the plate.

No, but the First Amendment applies to all governments in the United States.

I'd have expected you to know that. Your local community college might have a US Government class you could sign up for.

Yup.

If you want a custom plate, however, the Indiana government will encourage you to get the Christian-themed plate over any other custom plate you may wish to get, no matter what your religion is.

That's the critical problem here.

The government should not be offering the plate, our money should not say "In God We Trust". There has to be a clear division between church and state. This separation is not to hinder you or practicing your religion but it protects your rights to practice whatever religion you feel. You can not have a government entity playing favorites when it comes to religion,

Absolutely, 100%, totally spot-on correct.

If you want your car to make a religious statement, use the bumper sticker. Don't expect the government to make your religious statement for you.

Any of the monotheistic religions that call their deity "God."

Obviously, this is primarily Christian.

Do you have proof of Indiana promoting one plate over another?

Yes.

They waive the $15 administrative fee, making it $15 cheaper than any other custom plate.
