I drink the odd(ish) special brew,I used to drink Courage Bulldog,a strong pale ale,6.3 a/v,and when I'd had enough,I started a hangover,while i was still drinking,it was lovely,but bad for me!
I tried a lager,called force 10,10 pc a/v,but it was crap!
Mark, enjoy your stout, you can drink more of it,bobbo

Yeah, it varies. Sadly draft beers here have only 3%. Stupid a** Kansas drinking laws. But at least I can still order bottles with normal content.

This is great news, but... Is it really? I mean, strong doesn't always mean tasty, does it? I'd like to hear some opinions on this.

Your right. Some beers are so strong they are undrinkable. Special brew?

Samichlaus Ale is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the strongest beer in the world, but that's production beer. Going microbrewery is the way to go for really strong beer...the problem is finding a good one.

Beer is the world's oldest[1] and most popular[2][3] alcoholic beverage. Some of the earliest known writing refers to the production and distribution of beer.[citation needed] It is produced by the fermentation of sugars derived from starch-based material ? the most common being malted barley; however, wheat, corn, and rice are also widely used, usually in conjunction with barley. Less widely used starch sources include millet, sorghum and cassava root in Africa, potato in Brazil, and agave in Mexico, among others.

The starch source is steeped in water, along with certain enzymes, to produce a sugary wort which is then flavoured with herbs, fruit or most commonly hops. Yeast is then used to cause fermentation, which produces alcohol and other waste products from anaerobic respiration of the sugars. The process of beer production is called brewing.

Beer uses many varying ingredients, production methods and traditions. The type of yeast and production method may be used to classify beer into ale, lager and spontaneously fermented beers. Some beer writers and organizations differentiate and categorize beers by various factors into beer styles. Alcoholic beverages fermented from non-starch sources such as grape juice (wine) or honey (mead), as well as distilled beverages, are not classified as beer.
