There are plenty of topics about abortion, but no topics about whether it should be legal or illegal.

Until now.

I say that it should be legal because people are going to do it anyway - is it not worth saving many more lives (the lives of the mothers) than letting them die getting back-alley abortions?

What do you people think? Remember, this isn't about whether abortion is right or wrong (there are more than enough of those already) - this is about whether it should be legal or not.

And so you know, I do not like abortion. I hate it. But I do think it should be legal.

Please discuss (and with no blatant flaming or insincerity or stupidity).

Not any more than I have reasons why having a carpet should be legal, or why looking at a tree should be legal.

It makes sense . . . though I doubt all people will see it. Then again, maybe I'm the crazy one for seeing it . . .

Anyone else have anything to say?

Besides, my mother had one and said it was the worst day of her life. She doesnt go by a day without thinking about it and feeling like a bad person. She told me about a year ago that if they people at the clinic had told her she would be haunted the rest of her life that she would have made another choice.

Not meaning to seperate that one part, but I want to make a point, and your statement there starts it off . . .

That's why it should be legal, in my book. It's not a victimless crime, even if you consider the fetus to not really be a child. The woman suffers a great deal. Thus, she pays for the cheap way out . . . it is balanced, in my book.

Research shows that the vast majority of women who have an abortion do not regret their decision. The best predictor of whether they regret it is their mental health status before the abortion. *

Furthermore, research shows that women who are harassed by protestors outside of clinics, and women who are encouraged to have an abortion they don't want are more likely to regret it.

They should be legal. It's legal in my country. If (heaven forbid) I fell pregnant right now, I'd choose to abort it.

A friend of mine had an abortion and she doesn't regret it one bit. She regrets that it happened in the first place, but doesn't regret her decision.
