So you're with a dog or cat (or w/e) in the country side, and it gets injured or sick, is in a lot of pain, and there's no vet for miles. It IS going to die.

So would you end it misery and kill it? Or would you let it die on it's own?

I'm a huge animal lover, and I'd end it's misery. Idk how, I'd probably drown it, because that's quick. I couldn't break it's neck or smother it.

It's a horrible position, I know, I would feel absolutely HORRIBLE for weeks. But I'd rather it die at my hands than painfully and slowly.

With these kinds of questions people have a tendency to sidestep the question by coming up with a third option.

Like my thought was that i'd bandage the animal as best i could and run as fast as i could for help hoping they didn't die on the way.

But i'll give a proper answer too.
The question is whether i would kill an animal or allow it die in pain?

I'd like to think I would put it out of it's misery if I had the means to kill it humanely.

Why drown it?
Drowning takes time, snapping its neck is instant.
You reversed those two.

You're right.
Kicking the thing to death certainly wouldn't be the way to go. The quickest way is best.

I just can't stand suffering. That's worse than death.

I just can't agree with drowning it. My first choice is to shoot it assuming I have a gun with me. Beyond that, choices are limited without inflicting a lot of pain and suffering. Snapping an injured dogs neck may be a challenge. They don't want to be messed with. Find a large rock and crush it's skull.

I'm not strong enough, I'd probably half-ass is (not intentionally) and it would be suffering more.

One breath underwater. Gone.

See, I couldn't do that. Too violent.
If they're in that much pain, they probably won't fight you too much, they'll just take a breath and be gone.

It would hurt to kill anything for me, it's not like I could do it and feel perfect after. I'd feel very bad.

?
It would take at least 20 seconds for it to drown.
20 seconds of drowning is definitely suffering in my book.

I love how this moral question has morphed into a thread on the best way to kill an animal?

I honestly don't think im experienced enough to kill an animal humanely without a gun, even a knife i wouldn't be sure about.
Maybe i'd just try and ease his suffering as best i could realisticly.

You're right, back on track.

Idk, I was assuming like most people that they don't have a weapon with them.

I couldn't. I would feel really bad about letting it suffer, but I could never even think of killing it purposely...I wouldn't be strong enough for that...
