A dark poem I wrote

The Visitor

I think I saw a glimpse of you,
when I was just a child.
You may remember I was ill,
my fever had run wild.
I saw a shadow in the dark,
the fear welled up in me.
I closed my eyes and looked again,
but nothing could I see.
You come to call on everyone,
you take away their breath.
I guess that's why they still call you,
the Dark Angel of Death.
One day you will be welcome here,
when I grow tired of life.
I'll greet you as I would a friend,
and you will end my strife.
Till then please keep your distance,
even though you hear me sigh,
for I still have some fight in me,
I'm not prepared to die.

brilllliant though very dark poem

Thank you. It was inspired by the mood I was in at the time, and also the fact that I was ill through much of my childhood, and I did indeed experience hallucinations several times when I would run a high fever.
