A majority of American adults (57%) have not lived outside of the state in which they were born, and 37% have never left their original hometown; at the opposite end of the spectrum, 15% have lived in four or more states. College graduates (40%) are far less likely to live in their birth state than those with a high school education or less (66%). Two-thirds of young adults, ages 18-29, have not lived outside their state of birth, but they also are the most likely to say that they probably will move within five years.

This really shocked me. I was about 18 and 2 months when I left my state. I love living in different cities and states. I know a lot of people never get the opportunity to live somewhere else but I think it is really weird if you don't even want to.

I was born in Alabama , stayed there till I was 10 then moved to TN. after my parents divorce. I spent most my life in TN. I did live a year in Arkansas and 10 miserable a** months in Flordia but other than that TN. is my home sweet home.

i think its a family thing too... i had always planned to move out to arizona or nevada, but once i had my son i realized how important it was to me to have my kid grow up with his grandparents and aunts/uncles and cousins playing an involved role in his life...

I can't wait to be able to get out of this town! It's small and boring. I'm going out of state for college and don't plan to live in Colorado again, at least not this part of it. It's beautiful, but I've been here for about 15 years, and so to me, it's not extraordinarily pretty, just normal. I want to live by the ocean - the biggest body of water I can remember is Lake Superior, and it simply blew me away when I saw it.
