Although methanol is less expensive to produce, ethanol is blended with methanol in gasoline. This is because methanol does not mix well with gasoline, and ethanol is used as a co-solvent. Explain, with reference to molecular structure, why ethanol is more soluble than methanol in gasoline (which is mostly octane).

I tried researching this but i couldnt get any useful info. I dont need someone to answer this question but i would like some ideas though. Thx.

We have a ethanol plant right here in our county, and it seems they always have a fire there, and would you believe we dont have have one gas atation that handles pure ethanol.
Even though we are known for automobiles in our state. and many cars now can run on pure Ethonal. like our Surburban I know they make it from corn and a lot of farmers sell it to them

See if one of them has double bonds in it, coz that wud make sense, break the double bond and it wud attach to something else

Well, both ethanol and methanol do not contain any double bonds but gasoline does contain hydrocarbons, i dont know if that helps or not.

And I wish I could answer this, but I didn't take Chemistry in school. I took Biology.
