The last four times I had surgery, I took Anne Michaels' Fugitive Pieces to the hospital. The book is extraordinarily beautiful and reads like poetry. The subject matter is extraordinarily painful. Holocaust. A young boy watches his entire family die and hides in the forest, where he sees the spirits of the dead rise. From this beautiful poetic writing, this brilliant child convinces me that we go on. We go on.

Robin Hood, Treasure Island, Tom Sawyer, Robinson Crusoe, The Time Machine, Kidnapped, Gullivers Travels, Ivanhoe, The Three Musketeers, and many many more. I have read these books over and over since childhood. At least a dozen times each.

Most people have favourite books but i was wondering what one book everyone reads that doesn't get boring even if you've read it a thousand times.

Mine has got to be Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte because as i'm getting older i have understood more and more about the different layers almost of the plot and the characters.

There are 6 books I have read and re-read, and re-read, they are interesting no matter what page I open up and start reading from. They are dog-eared and well loved.

1. The Enchanted Wood - Enid Blyton
2. Jaws - Peter Benchley
3. Billy - Pamela Stephenson
4. East of Eden - John Steinbeck
5. Tirralirra by the River - Jessica Anderson
6. Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi - Bob Woodward

None. I love reading, honestly, but I can't reread a book! Because if I know the ending, know the bad guys, and already know all the twists, then I don't see the point in reading it again. And, when I did try to reread a book, that I used to love, I found that it wasn't as exciting as it was before.

Watchmen. Seriously.

Other than that, I feel like if I re-read a book, I'm missing out on a book I haven't read. But, I do love short stories and find myself revisiting those from Poe and Bradbury pretty frequently.

Tess of the d'Urbervilles because i studied it and it's now become a pleasure to read it without having to dissect it and George's Marvellous Medicine - always makes me laugh
