Actually Viking metal is a sub-genre of black metal, basically black metal with celtic chord progressions. Lyrical content doesn't have anything to do with it, and Amon Amarth is melodic death metal.

There's a lot of subgenres. However most of them have reason to be there. Though it is getting a tad out of hand.
