I just got AVG Free anti-virus, and it keeps insisting on scannig my emails every time I start up my computer, but the proplem is that is doesn't work, so it just hold me up being able to check my email until it gives up trying which takes forever. How can I get it to stop doing that?? I tried disabling the email section of it, but it just happily re-enables it and keep on going, it's sooo irritating, what can I do???

check out the checkbox for e-mail activation in the options in AVG
or
remove all entries of AVG Email scanning from startup - Start-run-msconfig

antivir is not avira.
it's quite okay.
however, i suggest avast home if you want free. or avast pro.
www.avast.com
it's efficient and offers way more functionality to the user, is user friendly and uses very little memory or processing resources.
you'll need a free firewall like sygate personal firewall (freeware for home users too).

however, if you already have avg and is using it now - try remove the annoyances and continue to use your current software configuration.

TO annski729:
getting rid of wrongly configured software will not make one learn more. never evade a problem. fight and try to get things right. then, if you feel like you need something more efficient, you get rid (uninstall it).

Ok, I re-ran the set-up software and unchecked the email scanner and that uninstalled the email section of it. So far so good, thanks!
