Can i suggest that you use 4 or more pcs (even p3 with 1 gb ram and pack them with high capacity hdds) incl. the current one in clustered mode using simple live cds having openmosix? i don't know about you but i really believe in clustering to reduce workloads esp. when it comes to memory management.

I don't think tino needs that...

BTW the server is a quad opteron with 4GB RAM. It rarely, if ever, goes into the swap for memory.
