Elvis Presley's 1956 House, Memphis, TN - 1034 Audubon
In 1956, a 21-year-old Elvis Presley would rise to international stardom. During this time Elvis lived at 1034 Audubon Drive, Memphis, TN.
1956 marked a significant time period in the eyes of the American public for a young would be king. Elvis purchased 1034 Audubon Drive with royalties earned from ?Heartbreak Hotel?. This was a time of innocence, gracious southern living and the dawn of pop culture, as we know it today. During his 13 month stay at Audubon, Elvis became a multiple hit recording artist with RCA, movie star, teen idol, breadwinner for his immediate family (who resided with Elvis), heartbreaker, showstopper, award winner and ultimately homeowner with numerous additions and customizations to the property as designated by Elvis, which remain to this day.
Numerous photos were taken of Elvis, family friends and fans at this home, including iconic photos of Elvis on his Harley and by his famous pink Cadillac.
The original period mirror in Elvis first and front bedroom remains where Elvis would have checked his appearance in his stunning Nudie Gold Lame suit or his hair before leaving past adoring fans en-route to numerous appearances in Tupelo, New York and Hollywood.
In 2006 fans and original neighbors continue to tell stories of movie star friends Nick Adams and Natalie Wood, politicians and everyday people flocking to this residence for a glimpse of and hopefully autograph from Memphis own hometown boy. Young female fans would throw pennies at the front windows knowing Elvis was possibly lying in his bedroom at the front of the house. Eventually Elvis would take the back, larger bedroom for additional peace, quiet and privacy.
