On another thread an article on "Trumpism" was linked. Part of it spoke of the media and the part it plays in seeking to influence public opinion.

An excerpt:-

In the US, the main print titles tend to be neutral or liberal, and several remain committed to proper investigative reporting.

Another excerpt, this time regarding the UK:-

The Tories and their media ecosystem, with its influence over the rest of the media

I am just interested in hearing a few opinions on the US media.

Thank you

Opinion / impression

The media in the UK seems to be less constrained on what they can print.
Hence the lawsuits that pop up over slander and libel.

Whereas in the US, they have to be more nuanced in their headlines

But they can still sway opinion with their words:

"Rioters at the Capitol"
vs
"Protests at the Capitol"

That, mixed with "If it bleeds it leads" -
"BLM Protests" vs "BLM Riots"

I'm sure there is a whole flowchart of subject matter and preferred wording for journalists to follow based on where their paycheck is coming from.
