Has all that death made a difference or is everyone still 'dime a dozen' commodity waiting by their phones?

It depends
Manufacturing is still in need of labor.

Teachers and school bus drivers are in short supply
As are healthcare workers

But you either need training/education or the right aptitude.

At least some manufacturing companies will send you to school for training.

Surprise surprise, you have to make an effort to make a living.

I think about the same thing for construction jobs after natural disasters. With all those wildfires over the past years, or the hurricanes and tropical storms, you'd think there would be a lucrative construction industry and labor demand.

Greetings.

Construction gigs are great. I'm flying to Tucson next week for a two-week project.

Because of teleworking/working from home requirements, some places have accelerated their renovation and expansion projects.

Great for those willing to roll up their sleeves to get r dun.

So only the feeble, 2nd class citizen, piss-ants in menial (hold-your-poop-for-8-hours), conveyor-watching jobs have been killed.

You're doing construction from home?

How heavy are the girders you've been tossing?

All I got from this is "If we lower the wages we could fill a lot of opportunities with the entire population of a small Indian Ocean island."

In america, in a small town, you might one or two large or major corporations as main sources of income. And, small business to come the rest of the small town.

Pretty much in 1800's, how american west formed.

I travel the regular way to the customer site because I'm in the class of "essential workers" whatever that means.

And it's "low voltage" so, audio and video solutions.
