sudden urge for "untold, countless thousands" (Daily Mail) to suddenly decide to "infest" Britain (Rod Liddle).

Yes, that is the sort of talk lapped up by many. Much like the 80m Turks about to invade the UK during the EU Referendum Campaign. (Its a good job the brexiteers "knew what they were voting for" )

Your points about our Royal Navy reminded me of an old joke told when we actually had some sort of Armed Forces, of some world crisis where "The USA has offered both its soldiers and its airforce, the UK has offered both its soldiers and its navy, while the Sudan has offered both its soldiers"

Nigel Farage has his very own take on the "crisis". Speaking of a recent landing of migrants seeking asylum, he called it "a shocking invasion on the Kent coast."

(Dictionary definition of "invasion":- an instance of invading a country or region with an armed force)

Nigel Farage .....

For those in the US unacquainted with the UK's very own "man of the commonfolk", often seen drinking a pint of real ale (when on camera....), he is "anti the Establishment", and critical of "career politicians" who have "their noses in the trough". Once he claimed to be "skint" as he was not in politics for the money (or words to that effect) At that particular time he was receiving 75k a year (plus expenses) as an MEP, living in a 4m Chelsea Townhouse, and had only recently received a sum of £450,000 from his mate, Aaron Banks.

(He has though shared a platform with Donald Trump)

Call me 'Little Miss Loonie Leftie' if you will, but I reckon that the last thing on his mind was taking some UK worker's job.

He also pockets a pension of £73'000 a year from the EU for his time as an MEP. During that time however, he had the worst attendance record in the EU Parliament of any MEP from any country in its entire history, and when he did attend it was only to heckle, abuse, obstruct and attempt to undermine the Union in its work.

When several newspapers (not among them the "Brexit Four" of Daily Mail, Daily Express, The Sun and The Daily Telegraph) reported this fact he said he would return his payoff and refuse the pension.

Since then, he has done neither.

Obviously not right to demonise the man, yet it is sad that many "working class" people actually admire him and see him as "one of ours". During the gridlock on Brexit he held an open-air meeting on the grass outside of the Houses of Parliament and whipped up the crowd with talk of "being in enemy territory". Parliament, the actual heart of the British Constitution, the heart of its Democracy, was being depicted as "the enemy". Why? Because it was actually scrutinising the entire process of all things Brexit, as was its democratic duty. But Mr Farage, like so many Brexiteers, appear to insist that Democracy began and ended on 23/06/2016.

It did if you won.

Before the referendum a certain Mr Farage said:

"In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way." By this he meant that if Remain won by 52 - 48% he would demand a second referendum.

The result was, indeed, a 52-48% split, but in favour of Leave. This means it was very much 'finished business'

All of a sudden, this was 'democracy' and 'the will of the people' and the result must not be challenged in any way, shape or form.

When challenged on this point by Jo Coburn on the Daily Politics a month or so after the referendum he said "I don't care. We won and we're leaving the EU."

So there you have it.

That's democracy, Brexit style, folks..!!

All of a sudden, this was 'democracy' and 'the will of the people'

The author Umberto Eco, whose background has given him much insight into the (new) Fascist mindset, has said that "The will of the people is a theatrical fiction"

Delving into this quote I found....

"Selective populism: there are no individual citizens with individual rights and opinions, only 'the People . . . expressing the Common Will'. As this is a fiction, the Leader pretends to act as “the People’s” interpreter and rails 'against rotten parliamentary governments'. Again, Eco prophetically warned of a future 'TV or Internet populism' where 'the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People'."

I would say, very prophetic.

This just goes to show that the Daily Mail doesn't change its spots. This was printed this tirade against German Jews coming to London as refugees in 1938.

Same message then. Same message now.
