Did Yahweh do us a favor by denying us eternal life?

No one talks to God, he is unknowable. Those in the old stories claiming to be god haven't denied anyone eternal life and can't actually do so. Everyone lives forever. What has been denied is the ability to remember and or realize this fact.

I know a lot of people who talk to god..

Being "unknowable" does not preclude one from talking to god... or anyone/thing

I have seen people die. I saw them cease to breath and their hearts cease to beat.

You can claim that they lived on (I'm guessing you are talking about their spirit or soul), but you have no proof of it. On the other hand there was proof that they stopped breathing and their hearts stopped beating and their brains ceased to function and their bodies began to decompose.

The afterlife and reincarnation are beliefs that have never been proven.

Dead bodies are real.

Buddhism asserts that whatever comes to be will also cease to be. Buddhism weaves a middle way between "eternalism" and "annihilationism" - with the middle way not a position between any two extremes, but a "no position" that transcends both (or as the Mahayana would say, "empty"/"suchness" )

This, in my experience, is applied in a negative sense, by which I mean that if I cling to an idea of "carrying on" after death, it negates the "holy life". Like all things, the Dharma is for passing over, not for clinging.
