Nobel Prize winner Aung Sung Suu Kyi is representing Myanmar in the International Court for the charges of Crimes against humanity against the Rohingya people.

She is the leader of the opposition party and a presidential minister. The military has been persecuting the Rohingya people, taking advantage of the current epidemic and anti Muslim sentiment among the mostly Buddhist majority Bamar population.

I think this is a travesty of politics and the press, and shows the naivete of the UN. Here is a detailed story from the BBC . Here is a related blog post

I failed to point out in the first post the following. Basically the elected government in Myanmar to date has little real political power. Aung Sung Suu Kyi isn't allowed to run for president and is therefore a minister. The military holds veto power over any constitutional changes. The current constitution is basically a "power sharing" agreement between the government and the military with most of that power in the hands of the generals.

The government of Myanmar has no power to stop military actions. However, the US and other Western Nations lifted sanctions on Myanmar once the "free" elections were held.

The military, by send her to the UN tribunal, is basically making Madame Aung Sung the face of their illegal activities, It is a disgusting sham. The West doesn't seem to understand this. She spent over 20 years under house arrest for her anti military government activities before the elections were held.
