Currently I have health insurance through my employer. They pay for it for me. I have no deductibles only a small number of co-pays at doctor?s visits and such.

I was just informed that once I go on maternity leave I will have to begin paying 300.95 a month for my insurance.

This is what I found online...

----

MAINTENANCE OF HEALTH BENEFITS

A covered employer is required to maintain group health insurance coverage for an employee on FMLA leave whenever such insurance was provided before the leave was taken and on the same terms as if the employee had continued to work. If applicable, arrangements will need to be made for employees to pay their share of health insurance premiums while on leave.

In some instances, the employer may recover premiums it paid to maintain health coverage for an employee who fails to return to work from FMLA leave.

----

Am I reading that correctly? I see it saying that I have to pay the amount I normally would before I took my leave. Since I paid nothing, doesn't that mean I am to continue paying nothing?

I think it means that they can't discontinue your benefits while you are on leave. Some places will cancel while you are not physically working. They will and can make you pay the premiums that you were currently getting for nothing just while you are out.

You could also call the actual insurance company and discuss it with them. Sometimes there may be ways to get around the payment and they would know it better than your employer. Try calling them and see what they say
