As for myself:

1968: Nixon
1972: McGovern*
1976: Ford
1980: Reagan
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Bush
1996: Dole
2000: Bush
2004: Bush
2008: McCain
2012: Romney
2016: Trump
2020: Trump

* That was the start of my campaign to repeal the 22d Amendment. I still am fighting to get it repealed.

If the 2016 Democrat primary hadn't been fixed, I would have been happy to vote for Jim Webb.

How many of those were you voting for the candidate and not just against the Dems?

I bet I could pick which Senators and Governors you voted for too....

Not too different.

I really would have considered voting for McCain if Palin weren't on the ticket. I think he picked her as a "gadget play"

I would not have been against voting for a businessman - a real businessman ... whatever party ... just not Trump. I honestly listened to, and considered him in the beginning, but it didn't take long for him to make it easy to decide.

Those years, 1977, 1993, and 2001, are wrong.

i misread on wiki, with the list of presidents, the end of previous president's terms.

i should have wrote 1978, 1994, and 2002.

1977, 1993, and 2002 - those years, i was married three times. my ex-wives ran off with my three best friends.

today, i haven't seen my ex-wives and my three best friends since 2001.

today, i still mis my three best friends.

I have voted Republican since 1980. I am seriously disillusioned with the party, but there is no where else to go.

when both parties are questioning the leadership of their party, that you wonder if you should vote at all.

I think this is more or less the status quo for Republicans of late. There was a large camp of Repubs who since the beginning of the current administration were saying that Trump was not really a conservative but more of an opportunistic liberal in conservative's clothing. I don't know that I'd go that far, but I can say that a lot of his actions have fragmented the republican party and done more damage to it than good.

It's ugly all over right now, honestly. I'm more conservative now than I have been previously in my adult life for a number of reasons, still have some liberal views, but I lean right a lot of the time and I don't know how easy voting is going to be in 2020 for me.

Been all over the political spectrum since first voting in 1988, am registered as an independent. Generally speaking, leaned Republican until GW, leaned Democrat since then. I like the fiscal conservatism of the old Republican Party but they have gotten pretty retarded since then in many other areas. And, more than anything, I wish lobbying was reformed and the two parties would work together like they used to as well. Compromise, where everyone agrees that they won’t get everything they want, but still makes things better than they were before for the people, seems to be a foreign concept now, sadly.

I rarely vote. I voted for Jimmy Carter. Almost voted for Perot, but he wimped out. Last voted for Trump. I'm an independent. Deal with it.

2012: Gary Johnson
2016: Gary Johnson

As for state-wide races (in New Mexico), I voted for Susana Martinez for governor in 2014 (though I've grown to like her less since then), and a mix of Republicans and Democrats for Senate/Congress/City council etc. I supported Republican Dan Lewis for Albuquerque mayor in 2017 and he lost, but the Democrat who won (Tim Keller) seems OK. I think Bill Richardson was a better governor than Susana and I think Martin Chavez (both Dems) was a better mayor than Republican former mayor Richard Berry.

Since I'm young, I looked back and did an experiment to see who I would've voted for in past elections:

1980: Reagan
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Perot
1996: Perot
2000: Nader
2004: Michael Badnarik
2008: Chuck Baldwin

Like Leon, I've kinda been over the place politically, trying to figure out what I really believed in and who/what best represented my views. If I had to classify myself now I would say I'm a slightly conservative-leaning Libertarian, but I'm registered as an independent voter. I generally dislike both major parties, but prefer the Republicans slightly (sometimes).

I'm willing to vote for anyone who I feel has the temperament and willingness to work together with others for President. In 2016 I would've voted for Rand Paul (for sure, he was my # 1 choice), or maybe Kasich, Rubio, or Jeb Bush. I would never, ever vote for Trump. I liked Ted Cruz as first for his anti-establishment views, he was Libertarian-ish (at first), and thought he was intelligent and articulate. But he lost me when he started getting desperate in the primaries and I found out he was too socially conservative for me, and looking back he seemed to be a bit too stubborn when it came to getting his way (i.e the government shutdown in 2013), though it was admirable to me in a sense.

On the Dem side, I would've voted for Jim Webb also. Maybe I would've considered Biden, same with O'Malley. I respected Sanders but he was too far left for me. I would never, ever vote for Hillary.

So once Trump and Hillary became the nominees the choice for me was pretty clear. During the campaign I preferred Trump a bit, but now that he's actually President I'm not so sure anymore. Meh. The two people I liked the least got the nominations.
