BBC - Australian Vote Supports Gay Marriage

Australia has become the latest nation to vote in favour of allowing gay men and lesbians to marry.

The postal vote went 61.6% in favour and although the poll is non-binding on the government, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has stated that legislation to change the law will be passed in the new year.

"(Australians) have spoken in their millions and they have voted overwhelmingly yes for marriage equality," Mr Turnbull said after the result was announced.
"They voted yes for fairness, yes for commitment, yes for love."

Of 150 electorates in Australia, all but 17 of them voted in favour of changing the law.

Welcome to civilisation, Australia.
