I didn't see the one where the Cleveland Browns put a player on the field pretending to be a quarterback. ... Though I guess after 10 years, week in and week out ... it's no longer a trick play.

Trick plays in football..?

This one was used in 1970 in a match between Coventry City and Everton. Apparently, it hasn't been repeated since.

The main camera misses the incident first time, but it's picked up on another camera and shown in the action replay. Watch the Coventry City (sky blue) player, Willie Carr, with the bright red hair as he stands over the ball.

Did you see the one recently (I think it was American Soccer) where it was a free kick, the ball hit the top rail and flew almost straight up.
The Goalie was happy and ran off, the kicker bowed his head that he missed, then the ball came down, and with the spin, rolled into the goal!

When I have more time, I'll try to find a video (if someone else doesn't beat me to it )

We've done that one in the past, Willi. I think the point has been made.

But I LIKE American Football (Go NY Jets..!!) It's very much like chess-on-a-field, where team organisation and co-ordination is paramount and every player has a part to play in every move. It's challenging and demanding and - if it wasn't for the stop/start nature of the game and all the TV commercials slotted into the breaks, it would be highly watchable.

We like continuous games. Two halves of 45 minutes where, notwithstanding stoppages for injuries (real or faked by players) and substitutions, the game carries on. It's just what we're used to and we rather like it that way.

American football is what it is. It's a form of football and is a good addition to the overall canon. If Jets make the Superbowl I might even record the match and watch it the next day. Not sitting up all night for it though (it kicks off at about 1 AM here). I'm not THAT keen. LOL.

But if it weren't for all the stopping and commercials, when would we get more nachos and take go to the bathroom?

... sidebar:
At a NASCAR race, I was sitting next to an elderly lady and she asked when do they stop to go to the bathroom.

Then years later (recently actually) a driver said it's so hot and they sweat so much that they usually don't have to go during the race ... but sometimes - well...

I remember in Germany , a flag would fly by the field on game day.
Soccer is kinda like hockey with no stick.
I like American football better.
line up over and over with a new play.
the defense trying to stop that play.
