All things being equal, whether one agrees or not, it was a felony to dodge the draft. Protesting is protesting, but if you voluntarily and knowingly break a law you kind of have to expect to go to jail if you're caught.
One of the things that MLK Jr. said that I always thought was very profound is that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law.
